Sandycoombe HOUSE, Twickenham - London Borough of Richmond upon Thames
We were brought onto this project alongside Dyer Grimes Architects following a dismissed appeal for a roof extension run by another team. This property, a locally listed home in the Cambridge Park Conservation Area, sits adjacent to Sandycoombe Lodge, the Grade II Turner’s House, and as a result, it required a delicate approach to its highly sensitive heritage context.
Our strategy addressed the comments made in the dismissed appeal by carefully rethinking the roof form and proportions, producing high-quality CGI visuals, and preparing a robust, evidence-led planning case. We also leveraged permitted development rights to demonstrate that elements such as the proposed rear ground floor extension and additional window openings were acceptable in principle, further strengthening our case.
The proposals were subsequently approved by the Council in under eight weeks under delegated authority, and we had a very happy client as a result!
